Replacing Brake Rotors and Pads

Model: Porsche 911 996 - Years 1997-2005

Lift the vehicle and remove the wheel. Using a special tool and hammer, clean the heads of the retaining screws on the rotor, then, once freed, remove them. Disassemble the brake by starting with the removal of the caliper support bracket by pushing out the central pin that holds the return spring. Remove the pads from the bracket. Using a small pry bar, push the hydraulic pistons back in. Using a ratchet wrench, remove the two rear screws of the caliper and set it aside, securing it with a rope. Insert two screws into the rotor to use as a puller, and if the rotor is stuck, use a rubber mallet to tap it until it completely comes off the hub. Clean the new rotors before installation to remove the protective grease. Reinstall the rotor, aligning the mounting holes.
