How to change oil and filter on BMW 3 Series? Lift your car on a column lift or jack and remove the bolt located under the oil pan using a socket wrench (remove the engine protection panel): this will allow the oil to drain into a container for future disposal. After letting all the fluid drain completely, reinstall the bolt in the oil pan and move on to the oil filter. Locate the oil filter cover (engine compartment), unscrew the large black filter cover, remove the old filter, and insert the new one. Ensure the cap is securely seated on the base. Refill the oil reservoir with new fluid following the manufacturer's recommendations.
