Removing Spark Plugs on BMW 3 Series

Here’s how to replace damaged spark plugs on a BMW 3 Series. Open the engine compartment and lift the hood, securing it. Remove the cabin air filter (under the windshield), and take off the plastic covers above the engine panel.

Remove the engine soundproofing panel by unscrewing the securing screws. Unscrew the screws on the sides of the coils, remove the coils from the engine head; unscrew the spark plugs with a socket wrench and pull them out of the head.

Install the spark plugs with the socket extension into the engine head, tighten them, and connect the ignition coils to each spark plug. Reinstall the engine soundproofing panel on the BMW. Reinstall the air filter under the windshield.
