Replacing Engine Crankshaft Components

Model: BMW Serie 3 E36 - Years 1990-2001

The crankshaft is held in the clutch side housing by the bolt that secures the primary cover sprocket. The sprocket is fixed to the shaft with a nut, a washer, and a half-moon key. Once the nut is loosened, you can completely remove it along with the washer. By pushing from the end left free by the nut, you can disassemble the crankshaft. Once the crankshaft is removed, pull it out while avoiding letting it fall on the other side, allowing you to check the condition of the rotary valve, which is the opening from which the mixture is drawn to be immersed in the housing.
