- Years 2004-2013 To check the oil level of the BMW 1 Series, you need to turn on the instrument panel by inserting the appropriate key into the ignition switch and then pressing the corresponding button. Once this has been turned on, you can proceed by accessing the menu through the button located on the lever to the left of the steering wheel. By moving the switch on this lever, you can scroll through the menu options until the one related to the engine oil appears: below it, there will be a bar indicating the amount of oil present in the system.
