Fiat 500 - Video tutorial

Model: Fiat 500 Epoca - Years 1957-1975
Part: Engine
Operation: Engine disassembly, its components and restoration.

The guide shows us all the parts of the engine, which will be disassembled one by one to be restored and bring the small engine back to efficiency. First, we drain all the oil into a container, then we proceed to disassemble the carburetor and fuel pump, then we use a 13 to remove the distributor cap and finally the oil bulb.

We focus on the engine block, unscrew the nuts on top of the valve castle, remove it, remove the nuts that hold the head in place and disassemble it using a lever, marking the position of each part. At this point, we remove the pistons, then unscrew the bolts that anchor the flywheel and before removing it, we mark its position.

To remove the crankshaft pulley, we unscrew the bolts on the cover, hammer the locking bend of the nut that holds it, and unscrew it with a 32 socket pneumatic gun. We then move on to the distribution, first unscrewing the nuts on the cover, then hammering the bends of the lamellas before removing the pulley-chain block and removing the camshaft.

We now move on to the lower part of the engine, first turning it over, then unscrewing the bolts of the oil pan, removing it, removing the oil pump rod together with the metal thickness, making sure to note the relevant numbers on the connecting rod and body, which will be useful when reassembling. Using a 13 key, we unscrew the rod nuts, and remove them one by one together with their respective pistons, without removing the bearings, then unscrew the bolts and remove the crankshaft.

Handbrake adjustment on Ford Ecosport

First remove the plastic profile at the base of the gear lever. To do this, slightly widen the side edges and carefully lift it to release it. There is no need to remove it completely, just move it forward to avoid bother. Now remove the plastic center console around the handbrake by first working from the rear to release it and lifting it until the brake lever passes. Also in this case it is not necessary to remove it completely but, paying attention to the connected cables, it can be stowed in front of the passenger seat. At this point we notice that at the base of the handbrake lever, on the front, we find a nut. By acting on it, with a 10 wrench, we can adjust the brake force, increasing it by turning the nut clockwise, or decreasing it by turning it counterclockwise. Once adjusted, the center console can be repositioned first, pressing lightly to engage it, and then the profile of the gearbox base.
