Checking and Replacing Glow Plugs on a Diesel Engine

In this video, learn how to check the glow plugs on a diesel engine: the double spiral warning light indicates issues with the glow plugs, and you can check this component without too much trouble, only needing a multimeter. Remove the cylinder head cover, and you will also need to take off the air filter.

The glow plugs are under the turbine cover, and this work is best done when the engine is warm. Remove the connectors and see the glow plugs ready for inspection.

Set the multimeter to 'continuity' mode and check that all sound except the first one, which has no continuity (it works like a light bulb). Since this component is very inexpensive, you can replace all four if needed; the third one is a bit tricky to remove.

Fit the new ones (which must be identical, of course) and reattach the connectors. In Fiat group vehicles, the ECU stores which glow plug was faulty, so you need to clear the error.
