Checking and replacing the glow plugs on a diesel engine

In this video we see how to check the glow plugs of a diesel engine: the double spiral warning light comes on, indicating a problem with the glow plugs which we can check with a multimeter. Remove the engine cover and also the air filter. The glow plugs are under the turbine partition, and it is best to do this work with a warm engine. Remove the spark plug wires and inspect the glow plugs ready to be checked. Set the multimeter to "continuity" mode and see that all but the first one make a sound, indicating lack of continuity (similar to a light bulb). Since these components are inexpensive, it is recommended to replace all four: the third one may be a bit difficult to remove. Install the new ones (which must be identical, of course) and replace the spark plug wires. In Fiat group vehicles, the ECU stores which glow plug was shorted, so the error must be cleared. We then learn some interesting facts about glow plug technology and how to detect potential failures in time.
