How to Replace the Timing Belt on a Ford Focus Ecoboost 1.0 Engine

Let’s see how to change the timing belt on a Ford Focus Ecoboost 1.0. This operation requires more than 6 hours of work: start by removing the auxiliary belt, alternator, air conditioning compressor, turbocharger, catalyst, and protection cover. Then, lock the 1st cylinder at TDC by inserting the engine side locking pin. Remove the crankshaft pulley bolt. Now proceed with the replacement by removing the front cover, unlock and remove the automatic tensioner by extracting the pin, and replace the timing belt (remember that since it is oil submerged, you will also need to remove the oil sump and replace it). Refit the tensioner with the cam downwards, and extract the pin for automatic tensioning. Clean the surfaces, fit the new gaskets for the cover, replace the front cover with sealant, and tighten the bolts in 4 progressive stages. At this point, install the anti-rotation disc on the crankshaft pulley with a new bolt; remove all locking tools and refit all components that were removed, in reverse order.
