How to Change the Engine Oil on a GMC Sierra

Model: GMC Sierra MK 4 - Years 2014-2018

Open the hood and remove the oil filler cap. Lift the vehicle and locate the oil pan; next to the pan is the oil drain plug and the filter. Use a ratchet wrench to loosen the oil drain plug and place a container on the floor to collect the used oil. Finish unscrewing the plug, then remove the oil filter with the appropriate wrench, waiting a few minutes for all the used oil to drain out. Reinstall the drain plug after cleaning it of oil/grime and tighten it with the ratchet wrench. Hand-tighten the new filter and secure it with the appropriate wrench. Lower the vehicle and, using a funnel, fill the system with new oil (use oil that meets the specifications for your vehicle model, see the manual). Close the oil fill cap. Check the oil level with the dipstick, which should be between the minimum and maximum marks.
