How to Remove the Starter Motor from the Porsche Boxster 986

This guide shows how to replace the starter motor on the Porsche Boxster 986. After disconnecting the hood and opening the upper engine cover, disconnect the battery. From the engine compartment, detach the clips securing the air ducts. This operation takes some time due to the transmission cables that obstruct the work. Once the rear air manifold is removed, you can see the starter motor. Using a 13 mm wrench, remove the two bolts securing the electrical cables to the starter. With a 15 mm wrench, unscrew the upper mounting bolt of the starter; from inside the cabin, insert a long enough wrench into the gap between the alternator to reach the other bolt. Remove the starter motor. At this point, the operation is complete.
