Volkswagen New Beetle - Video tutorial

Model: Volkswagen New Beetle MK 2, 9C - Years 1999-2012
Part: Timing belt
Operation: Timing belt replacement

It is advisable to carry out this operation only if you have good knowledge of mechanics: a trivial mistake could seriously damage the engine. During this maintenance it is also suggested to replace the auxiliary belt with the relative tensioner and the water pump. In order to access the crankshaft pulley, it is first necessary to remove the right front wheel and the plastic casing located right in front of the pulley (fixed with metal washers to the frame and some screws to the stone guard); then loosen the auxiliary belt tensioner (with a 15 mm wrench) and remove it. Using a 10 mm wrench, unscrew the fixing pin of the engine cover, unhook it and remove it (it will be necessary to extract the oil splint which will then have to be repositioned): it is possible to identify the timing belt cover on the side. Using a 6 mm Allen key, unscrew the 4 fixing pins of the crankshaft pulley and extract it from its seat; then unscrew the 4 fixing pins of the protective casing (with a 10 mm wrench) and remove it. At this point it is necessary to disassemble the engine support in order to remove the timing belt protective casing and have sufficient maneuverability: therefore apply a jack under the oil sump to support the engine and unscrew the support fixing pins ( 2 of 19 mm, 2 of 17 mm and 1 of 13 mm) and extract it from its seat; then unscrew the pins of the bracket (leg) connected to the motor and remove it; finally unhook and remove the belt cover. Then remove the auxiliary belt tensioner: just unscrew the relative fastening pins and those with the Allen head of the adjacent bracket. Now, before removing the toothed belt it is absolutely necessary to align the timing references on the camshaft pulley, on the crankshaft pulley and finally on the flywheel. Once the above references have been aligned, loosen the tensioner and remove the toothed belt. Before installing the new belt, it is recommended to replace the water pump and tensioner. At this point, apply the new toothed belt, taking care to make it adhere correctly to the pulleys without making them rotate and tension it by adjusting the tensioner adequately (it is advisable to preload the tensioner spring with a pointed pliers to be inserted in the appropriate holes and not with the parrot key). Then turn the crankshaft pulley two turns clockwise (the thermodynamic cycle of the four-stroke engine, in fact, develops completely in two rotations of the crankshaft) and check again that the timing references are correctly aligned . Then fit the new auxiliary belt tensioner and the new belt and what was previously removed.

How do I replace the Land Rover Evoque auxiliary battery?

In order to replace the auxiliary battery of the Land Rover Evoque, it is necessary to go inside the passenger compartment and remove the panel which is positioned immediately under the glovebox. Once the screws that secure this panel have been loosened, it will be possible to access the components located in its rear part, including the auxiliary battery. The latter must be disconnected from its cables and the fixing screws must be loosened. The battery can then be replaced with a new one and the panel can be fixed again with its screws.
