Front Shock Absorber Replacement

Model: Volkswagen New Beetle MK 2, 9C - Years 1999-2012

Lift the vehicle on a hydraulic ramp (or on suitable axle stands) and remove the wheel. To access the upper mounts of the shock absorbers, remove the plastic grille under the windscreen by taking off the wiper blades. Then, undo the nut securing the strut to the mount while holding it steady with a 6 mm hex key. Next, remove the mounting bolts of the shock absorber from the hub and loosen the bolts of the wishbone to extract it from its seat more easily: now you need a clamp to compress the spring and replace the shock absorber, or you can install a complete unit with spring and mount by reversing the process.
