Replacing the Water Pump on the Volkswagen Golf 2

Model: Volkswagen Golf MK 2, Golf 2 - Years 1983-1992

Open the bonnet and unscrew the coolant reservoir cap. Lift the vehicle and from underneath, locate the water pump assembly. Loosen the clamp on the coolant feed hose and drain all the fluid. Using a socket spanner, remove the thermostat and allow any remaining fluid to escape. Loosen and remove the V-belt by loosening the tensioner nut located on the alternator. Unscrew the bolts on the water pump pulley and loosen the two hose clamps on the other two pump feed pipes. Unscrew the mounting bolts of the pump body itself and remove it. Clean the ports and position the new pump. Then, reassemble all components in reverse order.
