Replacing Rear Brake Pads and Rotors

Model: Volvo S60 MK 1 - Years 2000-2009

Lift the vehicle on appropriate jack stands and remove the rear wheel; disconnect the retaining spring of the pads, pry between the rotor and the pads to slightly retract the piston, loosen the mounting pins of the brake caliper from the respective bracket and remove it by pulling out the old pads; fully retract the piston in the caliper by pressing it with a channel lock pliers; then remove the caliper bracket and the rotor mounting bolt to take it off; clean the rotor seat on the hub and sand the shoes, then wash everything with appropriate brake cleaner; also wash the new rotor to remove the protective oil, clean the caliper bracket, apply copper grease to the caliper mounting pins, and proceed in reverse for installation starting with the rotor, then the caliper bracket, inserting the new pads, and finally the caliper. Apply copper grease to the sliding surface of the pads and on their backs to prevent them from vibrating and generating that annoying squeal; pump the brake pedal until it offers the right resistance and pay attention during the first braking.
