Citroen C3 - Video tutorial

Model: Citroen C3 SX, SY - Years 2016-2023
Part: Timing belt
Operation: How to replace the timing belt of the Citroen C3

To replace the timing belt of the Citroen C3 1.2 petrol, we start by disconnecting the connectors of the spark plug coils, disconnect the throttle connector, disconnect the intake manifold pressure sensor connector, disconnect the lambda sensor connector, disconnect the positive battery terminal clamp, disconnect the air filter box tube, unscrew the bolt of the box with the hose clamp to remove the entire box, unscrew the clamps of the cable junction box and move it aside, remove the battery cover, disconnect the negative battery terminal clamp, move the engine control unit, unscrew the bolts holding the battery to remove it, remove the front screws of the intake manifold, remove the spark plug coils, detach the radiator sleeve and drain the cooling system. Now let's remove the 4 screws of the throttle; disconnect the coolant sleeve from the thermostat; before removing the intake manifold, remove the canister solenoid valve from the metal bracket, then remove the 4 rear screws of the intake manifold and remove it; now act on the tensioner screw, loosen the belt and remove it; also remove the tensioner; cut the water pump belt and remove it; unscrew the 3 fixing screws of the crankshaft pulley; unscrew the 4 screws of the access cover to the timing belt tensioner and idler; remove the head cover screws respecting the tightening sequence indicated by the manufacturer and remove it; remove the phase variator solenoids checking the cleanliness of the filters and the integrity of the O-ring; lock the variator by rotating the shaft counterclockwise (it must then rotate with the shaft in both directions). If it does not lock, it must be replaced; lock the variator by rotating the shaft clockwise (it must then rotate with the shaft in both directions). If it does not lock, it must be replaced; insert the pin for the engine shaft phase on the flywheel (special tool); check the correct position of the camshafts; insert the appropriate phase tool on the camshafts and secure it; using a specific tool, check the condition of the used timing belt within tolerance, comparing it with the new one (see video); remove the tensioner; also remove the idler; extract the crankshaft flange after removing its screw; remove the flange sealing ring; remove the timing belt by removing the 2 phase variators; take the new distribution kit with the new belt, the new tensioner, and the new idler; insert the new belt, being careful not to excessively bend it to avoid damage to its fiberglass structure; correctly position the phase variator key, paying attention to the tightening torque (replace the screw); correctly position the phase variator key, paying attention to the tightening torque (replace the screw); bring the screw closer to hold the sprocket in position without tightening it; position the new idler; position the new tensioner, bringing the screw closer without tightening it; adjust the tensioner by rotating the Allen key counterclockwise (paying attention to the tightening torque), see the correct tensioner adjustment in the video; mount the new flange sealing ring; reassemble the idler and tensioner cover, paying attention to the tightening torque; tighten the new central screw of the crankshaft sprocket to the correct tightening torque; remove the phase tools (engine shaft and camshafts); make 2 turns of the crankshaft by acting on the central screw of the crankshaft sprocket; check the engine phase again using the phase tools, remove the phase tools and reinstall the components in reverse order compared to their assembly, replacing the gaskets where present; remove the 4 screws of the water pump; clean the water pump mounting surface on the engine block; place the new gasket on the new water pump and bend the fins to secure it; position the new water pump and tighten the bolts, paying attention to the tightening torque; using the vacuum equipment, fill the engine cooling system with the quantity and type of coolant indicated by the manufacturer; check the correct operation of the radiator fan and the cabin heating system; respect the correct positioning of the pulley by tightening the bolts with the correct tightening torque; install the elastic belt of the water pump; use the appropriate tool as shown in the video (the belt must be correctly inserted into the grooves of the 2 pulleys); clean the surface where the tensioner rests (when assembling, respect the positioning of the centering pin and the tightening torque); install the service belt in the sequence shown in the video; slightly load the tensioner and remove the safety pin; correctly insert the belt into the grooves of the pulleys; drain the engine oil by unscrewing the drainage plug of the oil pan; replace the engine oil filter with a suitable wrench; remove the oil pan; check if the pump strainer is clean; clean the oil pan by removing any residue; mount the oil pan using
