How to Replace the Clutch on the Fiat Punto 188

This guide shows how to replace the clutch on the Fiat Punto 188 with a 1.1 Fire engine. The first step is to remove the battery and its support from the engine bay. Once the vehicle is lifted and the left front wheel is removed, take off the wheel arch liner to gain access. Unscrew the oil filler cap of the gearbox and the drain plug. Collect the lubricant fluid in a suitable storage container. Remove the hub bolt, the steering arm bolt, and the wishbone bolt. Remove the driveshaft by prying it from the gearbox. Perform the same removal operation on the other side of the vehicle. Dismount the starter motor and the cable fixing bracket; disconnect the speedometer connector. Remove the gearbox cover and disconnect the earth cable; remove the clutch and reverse cables. Place a jack under the oil sump and remove the engine mount. Lower the engine and remove the gearbox mounting bolts; take care as the gearbox is very heavy. At this point, remove the bolts securing the release bearing and take it off; this will also remove the clutch disc. Clean the flywheel and install the new clutch kit, centring it before tightening the bolts. Replace the release bearing and reassemble everything in position. Adjust the height of the clutch pedal using the plastic nut and top up the gearbox oil. Reassemble everything in position and check the correct operation of the clutch.
