Oil and Oil Filter Replacement on GMC Sierra

In this guide, you will replace the engine oil and its filter on the GMC Sierra vehicle. First, open the hood and unscrew the oil filler cap. Next, move under the vehicle, locate the drain plug at the bottom of the oil pan, and adjacent to it, you will find the cylindrical metal oil filter. Get a container (to collect the used oil) and loosen the plug with a ratchet wrench. When the plug is almost unscrewed, place the container underneath and remove it completely. Be careful of any seals or O-rings present on it. Now, using a socket wrench of the appropriate size, unscrew the oil filter. Check if the oil pan plug has a magnetic end; if not, replace it with one that does, as the magnet will attract metallic impurities in the oil, preventing them from circulating throughout the engine. Next, check if the new oil filter is compatible with the old one, and before reinstalling it, lubricate the rubber gasket with some grease. Clean the area around the drain plug threading, then screw in the magnetic plug. After that, clean the filter seat and install it using the socket wrench. Now, remove the dipstick and start adding the new engine oil (which should be both in the quantity and type recommended by the manufacturer, and you will find this information in the owner's manual). To avoid overfilling, check the level with the dipstick. Once finished, check for any oil leaks from both the drain plug and the filter. Finally, reset the vehicle's onboard display.
