Replacing the Thermostat

The thermostat regulates the flow of coolant to maintain a constant engine temperature and remove the minimum amount of heat necessary to prevent overheating. Once a set maximum thermal level is reached, the valve should not excessively increase the fluid, as this would have a counterproductive effect on performance, since greater heat removal equates to greater energy loss, reducing the engine's working capacity. In this vehicle, the thermostat is located below the power steering pump, driven by the auxiliary belt: you need to remove the tensioner cover under the wheel arch, loosen the tensioner to remove the belt, unscrew the retaining bolts of the power steering pump to move it away from its seat (without disconnecting the hoses) and access the thermostat. Position a bowl under the thermostat to collect the coolant, disconnect the hoses, and remove the retaining bolts of the thermostat itself. Proceed in reverse for the installation of the new one.
