Peugeot 206 - Video tutorial

Model: Peugeot 206 MK 1 - Years 1998-2012
Part: Engine oil
Operation: Engine oil change, level check, general maintenance

Raise the car on a lift and intercept the oil sump drain plug: it is located at the rear right edge of the sump. After having positioned a basin of suitable capacity (about 5 liters), unscrew the cap to allow the exhausted oil to drain. Then locate the oil filter (located at the front, immediately above the oil pan, next to the air conditioning compressor) and remove it with a metal clamp or chain wrench (also place a tray under the filter to collect the leaking oil). Then apply the new filter, after having covered the gasket with oil to improve adherence, and tighten it manually. Refit the oil pan plug by replacing the copper gasket and tighten carefully. Then fill the engine with new oil according to SAE specifications and the quantities indicated in the use and maintenance manual. Start the engine for a few minutes and check the oil level through the dipstick. At this point, check the gearbox oil level: simply loosen the filler cap (the one located at the front on the lateral edge of the gearbox) and check that oil is coming out. Check the state of wear of the brake discs (the surface must appear fairly regular, not excessively jagged and the tooth that forms on the outer edge due to wear must not be excessive) and check for brake oil leaks from the hose connected to the caliper. Then check the wear of the rear shoes by removing the elliptical rubber plug inside the hub and check, also in this case, the absence of oil leaks along the entire pipe, up to the brake pump. . Check the integrity of the half-shaft boots, both on the wheel hub side and on the gearbox side. Check the condition of the heads of the swinging arm and of the connecting rods, checking the integrity of the rubber caps and the absence of any play; also check the rubber pads of the anti-roll bar supports. Check the integrity of the steering box headphones, the absence of play on the tie rod heads and the gearbox worm gear coupling of the steering box itself: make small left-right movements with the steering wheel and check that the rotation of the steering wheel corresponds to a rapid movement of the wheels, without gaps; then check the power steering oil level through the dipstick under the oil pan cap located in front of the timing belt, near the air conditioning pipes. Check in the same way the rear suspensions and the fixing rubbers of the muffler and the integrity of the muffler itself (especially in correspondence with the welds. Check the inflation pressure of the spare wheel. Carefully inspect the engine to make sure there are no leaks. Remove the protective casing of the timing belt and evaluate its wear: the belt must not show any chipping or fraying; carry out the same check for the auxiliary belt. Then replace the air filter by unscrewing the fixing screws of the cover of the container, extracting the old filter and inserting the new one after cleaning the container from any residues present. Also replace the cabin filter located under the windscreen, inside the compartment in correspondence with the front right shock absorber support. coolant level in the relative tanks tta (positioned immediately next to the compartment just described). Then fill the washer fluid reservoir: it is located near the right front headlight. Lubricate the front hood lock. Check the integrity of the various wiring and rubber sleeves, especially at the connections. Check the efficiency of the battery: remove the cover and check that the color of the inspection glass is green and that there is no oxidation on the pole terminals. Finally, check the correct functioning of all the lights; check tire pressure; lubricate the locks, opening handles and hinges.
