Peugeot 406 - Video tutorial
Model: Peugeot 406
MK 1
- Years 1995-2005 This maintenance requires good knowledge of general mechanics and also of specific equipment in order to carry out the installation correctly. The clutch is the element that allows, thanks to the force of friction, the connection between the engine and the wheels, through the change of speed: it is precisely this force at play, friction in fact, which causes wear. . The kit generally includes the disc, the pressure plate and the thrust bearing (in some cases it may also be necessary to replace the flywheel). Start by disconnecting and removing the battery, its housing compartment and the air box; then lift the car on the bridge, remove the right front wheel, remove the safety pin and unscrew the nut fixing the drive shaft; remove the swinging arm of the suspension and the connecting rods from the stabilizer bar and remove the drive shaft from the gearbox side (pay attention to oil leaking from the gearbox). Remove the gearbox support and disconnect the intercooler hose that passes right under the gearbox; also extract the other drive shaft and drain the oil from the gearbox. Disassemble the engine support, muffler and subframe (engine cradle) by positioning a support jack. At this point you can proceed with the disassembly of the gearbox by disconnecting the sensor sockets, the gear cables and that of the clutch itself. Also disassemble the starter motor and complete the disassembly of the gearbox by removing it from the engine, the weight of which must be supported perhaps with a belt. Once the gearbox has been removed, the clutch can be replaced by removing the pressure plate and therefore the disc itself. Clean everything and install the new gaskets and oil seals, then the bearings, the flywheel, the disc and the pressure plate using the appropriate spindle for centering; then proceed backwards to refit the gearbox.
