Clutch Replacement Instructions

Model: Subaru Forester SG, MK 2 - Years 2002-2008

Replacing the clutch requires good knowledge of general mechanics and some tools; therefore, lift the vehicle on a lift and start by disassembling the front section of the exhaust pipe; then remove the left front wheel, the fastening nut of the driveshaft, the ball joint of the suspension arm, and that of the steering rack tie rod to slide the driveshaft out of the wheel hub; then extract the driveshaft retaining pin from the gearbox side and slide out the driveshaft itself; repeat the procedure on the right side, remove the protective covers of the driveshaft and disassemble the driveshaft itself. At this point, unscrew the fastening bolts of the gearbox, disconnect the connectors, remove the starter motor and the air filter housing to access the underlying gearbox support and the clutch actuator. Once the gearbox is freed, apply a support piston and remove it from its seat to access the clutch and proceed with replacing the disc and pressure plate (clean the flywheel of dust residues) centring them with the appropriate tool; finally, replace the release bearing inside the gearbox and reassemble everything.
