How to Change Engine Oil and Filter on Toyota 4Runner Mk5

This guide shows how to replace the engine oil on the Toyota 4Runner Mk5. The first step is to safely lift the front of the vehicle to access the underside of the engine. Remove the metal protective plate to access the drain valve. Unscrew the bolt after placing a container to catch the used oil; let all the fluid drain out and close the plug. Clean up any excess. Locate the oil filter housing, and using the appropriate wrench, remove the cartridge cover. Replace the filter and any gaskets, then reinstall the new element in position; tighten it to the correct torque specified in the owner's manual. Reinstall the protective cover and lower the vehicle. Fill the reservoir with the correct oil and start the engine for a few minutes. Check the fluid level again and top off if necessary.
