How to Replace the Outer Door Lock on a Toyota Tacoma Mk1

This guide shows how to replace the outer door handle on a Toyota Tacoma Mk1. From inside the door, remove the two screw covers located under the armrest and unscrew the two Phillips screws; unscrew the Phillips screw located in the inner handle area and disconnect the lock cable. Lift the front of the power window switch and disconnect its wires. Remove the trim in the corner of the mirror. Using a plastic trim tool, lift the edges of the door panel to detach it. At this point, you can remove the plastic to access the outer handle. Disconnect the two clips, one pink and one white. With a 10 mm socket, remove the bolts on the lock. Pull out the handle and replace it; during this step, move the lock cylinder to the new part. Reassemble everything and check the proper operation of the lock.
