How do you disassemble and repair the alternator in a Volkswagen Polo?

Model: Volkswagen Polo MK IV, Polo IV, Polo 4, MK 4, 9N - Years 2001-2009

It only takes a little patience and the right tools. Start by disconnecting the battery for safety reasons. Find the alternator, which is usually located near the engine, loosen the drive belt and unscrew the mounting bolts. Be careful to disconnect the electrical cables and remove it. For the repair, check the brushes, voltage regulator, and bearings. If you notice they are worn out, you will need to replace them. If the problem is more serious, such as a burnt winding, it is best to contact an electrician. Once you have repaired or replaced the alternator, reassemble everything following the steps in reverse. Make sure to tighten the belt and reconnect the battery. Now start the car and check that everything is working: if the battery light remains off, you have done a great job!
