Replacing Timing Belt

Model: Volkswagen Passat 3BG, B5 - Years 1996-2005

To access the timing belt, you must remove the entire front section, including the bumper, headlights, and grille. After removing the plastic covers, remove the fan and then the air conditioning and alternator belts. Next, remove the tensioner for the air conditioning belt and that of the alternator. Remove the cap located in front of the crankshaft pulley and take off the pulley itself; remove the other plastic covers, align the timing marks, insert the locking pins, and loosen the tensioner to remove the toothed belt. Replace the water pump (even if there are no leaks), the tensioner, the bearing, and fit the new toothed belt, accurately adjusting the tensioner. Remove the pins and rotate the engine to check the alignments.
