Replacing the rocker cover gasket

Model: Volkswagen Golf MK 5, Golf 5, Golf V - Years 2003-2008

If oil leaks from the edges of the rocker cover, you need to replace the gasket. This is a straightforward task; simply unscrew the bolts around the edge of the cover. To access some of these, disconnect the intake manifold hose and move the EGR valve. Once the cover is removed, pull out the old gasket, thoroughly clean the seating area both under the cover and on the cylinder head side, fit the new gasket ensuring it adheres perfectly to the seating without using sealant, and refit the cover.
