This video shows where the starter motor is located in a BMW 3 Series and how to proceed if you need to replace it. As shown, the motor is positioned in the rear left area of the engine, just below the intake manifold. To access and replace it, first ensure the key is not in the ignition.

Then, remove the battery, the front cover, and the air filter box. Next, disconnect the various indicated connectors, remove the intake manifold, and proceed to replace the starter motor.
