The Meaning of Error 89 on the Chevrolet Cruze

If the error code 89 (or P0089) appears on the instrument panel of your Chevrolet Cruze, this indicates an error related to fuel pressure regulation. The engine control module detects that the fuel pressure does not match the expected values, even though the fuel pump and the pressure regulating valve are functioning. The most common causes are a faulty fuel pump; a faulty fuel pressure regulating valve; a clogged fuel filter (which reduces flow and pressure); various electrical issues; degraded or low engine oil; or a problem with the injection system. In this case, it involves the thermostat, but the thermostat is not the typical cause of error P0089, so the engine temperature should be checked in real-time with a scanner: if it does not exceed 85/90°C, it may be stuck open; if it overheats, it may be stuck closed.
