Replacing the Engine Cylinder Head Gasket

Let’s see how to replace the engine cylinder head gasket. Remove the alternator belt and any accessory belts (power steering, air conditioning) and unscrew the spark plugs and their respective leads. Once everything is freed, you can extract the valve cover from the cylinder head and thus see the camshaft and timing belt. The timing belt and the engine block have two clearly visible reference marks; before removing the belt, ensure the two marks align perfectly. Once the correct position is found, block the clutch flywheel, located under the oil sump and the timing belt pulley, so it does not move. This operation will help find the top dead centre, which is when the first piston is at the highest point in its stroke. Pay particular attention during the tightening phase of the head with the new gasket to the cylinder block. To do this correctly, you will need a torque wrench to tighten the bolts to the correct torque value.
