How to Change the Oil and Filter on a Volkswagen Polo V Diesel

Here’s how to change the oil and filter on a Volkswagen Polo V diesel: open the bonnet and remove the engine cover, unscrew the oil cap to facilitate draining the sump, then lift the car and place it on axle stands positioned at the chassis's strong points. Remove the plastic cover and place a large collection container under the sump plug and remove it; allow the oil to drain, which you will dispose of correctly along with the filter at an authorised centre. Then clean the seating well and fit a new gasket and plug. The filter is located at the top of the engine, covered by the EGR valve; disconnect the connector, unscrew the securing screw, and move the valve aside. Remove the cover and extract the filter cartridge, taking care of any residual oil. Clean the housing thoroughly and remove the old gaskets; insert the new cartridge into the housing, reattach the cover, and remount the EGR valve. Lower the car, pour in about 3.5 litres of oil through the filler neck, screw on the cap, and start the engine in neutral for about 60 seconds until the warning light goes out, then turn off the engine and check the oil level again with the dipstick, adding more oil gradually until reaching (but not exceeding) the maximum level.
