How to replace the thermostat on a Volkswagen vehicle

Replacing the thermostat on a Volkswagen vehicle may seem like a complex operation, but with the help of our video tutorial and written guide, you will be able to perform this operation independently. When the engine has cooled down, unscrew the cap of the expansion tank. Using the appropriate tools, move the hose clamps around the tubes, place a container underneath and wait for the coolant to completely drain out. Now, let's proceed with removing the thermostat. Unscrew the top part of the air filter, remove the intake hose from the air inlet tube, disconnect the airflow connector, loosen the clamp and remove the top part of the filter. Once the bottom part is removed, we can proceed with removing the battery. Remove the intercooler pipe, disconnecting the clamps and completely remove the air tube. Continue with removing the water pump connector and then remove the pump itself. Remove the fuel filter as well. Finally, we will have access to the thermostat, remove the old valve and begin installing the new valve. Reassemble all the parts previously removed in reverse order.
