Ford Focus - Video tutorial

Model: Ford Focus MK 3 - Years 2011-2018
Part: Timing belt
Operation: Replacement of the timing belt of a Ford 1.0 Ecoboost 92 Kw engine.

In this video, we see how to change the timing belt on a Ford 1.0 Ecoboost 92 Kw engine: the replacement interval is 240,000 km or 10 years. The belt is oil bathed, so it is essential to use only Ford Longlife 5W20 oil. This is a rather long job because the engine must be almost completely disassembled; the oil pan, climate control, alternator, turbo intake pipe, exhaust pipe, exhaust pipe, catalytic converter, and intake manifold must be removed. The adjustment of the first cylinder is done based on two positions, referring to marks to be set at 1 o'clock, when the second cylinder is pushed towards the crankshaft. We remove the starter motor, insert the flywheel lock, and loosen the crankshaft bolt with the appropriate tool. By removing the two locking tools, we install the support for the torque multiplier. We remove the sealing ring at the bottom, and then unscrew the valve cover, removing 20 screws including 4 M10 and 16 M6. We remove the cover and position the locking tool on the camshaft (the flattened side should be facing upwards). The belt itself consists only of a tensioner roller and the belt, so it is enough to loosen the tensioner and remove the belt. To reassemble it, simply follow the reverse direction. It is advisable to also replace the oil pump belt, for which there is no fixed replacement interval. For the belt reinstallation, keep in mind the diagram shown in the video; the belt must be mounted counterclockwise, and the tensioner adjusts it automatically. If the timing is correctly positioned, the adjustment is completed. Before reassembly, clean all sealing surfaces of the front cover and the oil cup, apply approved adhesive, and then tighten it with the specified torque.
