Peugeot 406 - Video tutorial

Model: Peugeot 406 MK 1 - Years 1995-2005
Part: Engine oil
Operation: Engine oil and all filters replaced

Open the front hood and make sure it is supported safely. Loosen the 4 fixing nuts of the engine cover and remove it. Lift the car and place it on two car stands. Place a pan of suitable capacity (about 5 liters) to collect the used oil, in correspondence with the cap of the oil pan and remove the cap with the appropriate Allen key, letting the oil drain. In the meantime, remove the oil filter located under the diesel filter, near the alternator: it is advisable to use a metal clamp wrench or to pierce the filter with a screwdriver in order to leverage and unscrew it (make sure that the tray is located under the filter to collect the oil that comes out of the filter). Apply the new filter, which must have oiled the gasket to improve adherence, and tighten it by hand. Refit the oil pan plug, replacing the copper washer if necessary. Insert the new oil into the engine through the appropriate cap according to the SAE specifications and the quantities indicated in the use and maintenance manual, checking the level on the stick. To replace the diesel filter, unhook the socket connected to the cap and unscrew the cap fixing ring nut, without disconnecting the pipes. Then extract the filter cartridge and replace it with the new one; screw the cap fixing ring nut and reconnect the socket. To then replace the engine air filter, loosen the 4 fixing screws of the filter container cover, lift the cover and remove the old filter. Clean the filter container from any residues present and place the new filter and then refit the cover and tighten the 4 screws. It is not recommended to clean the intake ducts and the EGR valve by spraying spray or similar additives directly into the intake duct: any residues could damage the engine; any cleaning must be carried out by disassembling and washing the individual pieces. Finally, to replace the cabin air filter, remove the plastic cap located immediately under the windscreen, in correspondence with the left window wiper: release the two fastening clips, lift the cap and extract the old filter. Clean from any residues and position the new filter respecting the direction of the air flow. Then reposition the cap and re-attach the fastening clips. Refit the engine cover.
